New Makeup Focus: NARS’s “Powermatte Lip Pigment”

Following the latest trend in liquid lip color products on the market is the new launch of NARS newest lip product in their “Powermatte Lip Pigments” representing the new matte liquid lip to their line.  I’m sure all people in the cosmetic and beauty industry knows about the Nars cosmetics line and beauty brand as high quality makeup products but for those of you that don’t I’ll give you a little bit of history on the brand.  It was started by world renowned makeup artist and photographer Francois Nars who started the line as founder and creative director with 12 original lipsticks that launched in 1994 who has always been known for being innovative and “rule-breaking” in the artist and beauty arena.  He has always been and encouraged originality, boldness, and uniqueness through art (stating Play and try to be a little bit daring-and break the rules” and by extension to art in makeup combining fashion, art and makeup.  He earned the distinguished “National Order of the Legion Honour” in 2016.  He has published several books including “Francois Nars” an autobiography and “Makeup Your Mind:  Express Yourself” as well as seen on the covers of numerous magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Bazaar with many editorial and instructive articles on photography, fashion, and art.

With these new lipsticks called “Powermatte Lip Pigments” as an addition to the line representing the trend in liquid lipsticks that has been hitting most cosmetic brands they have also, I think, hit the mark as one of the best liquid lipstick formulas from some of the top and most well known cosmetic lines that carry them.  They come in a wide variety of shades with 20 in all with colors like “American Women” (a chestnut-rose), “Just What I Needed” (a pink-nude), “Slow Ride” (a soft brown-pink) for nudes, “Rock With You” (a deep mulberry), “Warm Leatherette” (a rich berry-pink) for berries, “London Calling” (a lilac-pink), “Wild Night” (a deep lilac) for purples, “Low Rider” (a lilac-pink), “Get Up and Stand Up”, (a bright coral-pink), “Give It Up” (a fuschia) for pinks, “Just Push Play” (red-currant), “Light My Fire” (a vivid orange-red), and “Star Women” (a vivid blue-red) for reds.  My favorites of the bunch and the colors I purchased are “Don’t Stop” (geranium), “Walk This Way” (a rose-pink), “Get It On” (a tan rose), and “Save The Queen” (a dusty-mauve).

As far as the formula, I think that these are some of the best out there among most of the top beauty/cosmetic lines being one of the most comfortable formulas to wear right up there with Smashbox, Bite Beauty, and Tarte Cosmetics, with Stila and Anastasia liquid lip formulas being my favorite.  It claims it is a “innovative concentrate of the most powerful matte yet with fluid complex, zero gravity feel, infinite matte color saturation with ultra flexible long-wear”.  It also describes the formula as more of a “lock in ink formula with smudge resistant and care free wear”.  They are lightweight and pigmented with great long-lasting power without being too dry and almost no flaking and cracking.  They are not heavy, thick, or pasty with very little transfer and hold out well through eating and drinking.  They are priced at $26.00 with 0.18 ounces of product and are in edgy clear and black packaging that you can see the lip color through a clear strip in the tube with the white capital letters of the famous NARS brand name on the lid.  It has a nice snap close top lid which is nice but to be honest, I wish the applicator was in more of a “doe-foot” form.

So, in keeping with the trending liquid lip boom gaining in popularity recently, I think the new addition to the NARS line in lip products with these “Powermatte Lip Pigments”, have definitely made a hit again and added to the quality products that we have all come to know and love from NARS.
