Highlighter Focus: Huda Beauty “Winter Solstice” Palette

Huda Beauty is a beauty brand that I have never tried but have always wanted to so I bought the highlighter palette called the “Winter Solstice” Highlighter Palette originally intending to do a “Best Holiday Highlighters” post and decided to do a review and “focus” on it instead.  I saw it while I was at Sephora and initially noticed the “Lip Strobes” and how beautiful they were and saw this palette plus the other quad palettes in the shades “Bronze Sands” (it came out in February of 2017) and “Pink Sands” of which neither I have tried and thought the “Winter Solstice” was the most beautiful of them and perfect for a winter themed highlighter post and review.  After I swatched them and saw how buttery and pigmented they were as well as the icy “wintery” feel to it the shades had I was sold.

It is a quad pan palette as are the rest of them with each of them holding a pretty good amount of product.  There is one cream and three powders called “Frosted Kiss” (a creamy duo chrome peachy-pink with gold reflects), “Arctic Glow” (a frosty purple green with silver reflects), “Northern Lights” (a true gold), and “Winter Rose” (a red rose gold).  My favorite color is probably the cream shade    “Frosted Kiss” which is a really gorgeous, sheer, and subtle color that would be great for a day look or layered with one of the other shades like “Winter Rose” on top.  The “Northern Lights” shade is a true highly pigmented “glow from space” kind of shade (it kind of reminds me of Fenty Beauty’s “Trophy Wife” that launched just a few months ago that is the same shade of gold (and would also be a good dupe although not a lower priced alternative brand) is very similar to it but with a little more sparkle.  It’s great for a high glam or night time look or a special or formal event or for whenever you feel like a little more drama.

The shade “Winter Rose” would be good with a look that coordinated with other reddish rose shades or in the same or complimentary color range and also very beautiful.  The shade “Arctic Glow” is the fun one of the four and a very unusual color which would be good for an edgy kind of look that also has a bluish purple tone to it.  It would look great with a coordinated purple smokey eye and a cool toned shade of blush like Makeup Geeks “Secret Admirer”, “Love Letter”, or “Promise Ring” or blushes from, MAC, Becca Cosmetics, and Bobbi Brown are all great high end blushes and for lower end there are L’Oréal and Maybelline’s (“Fit me”) blushes that are also great options.  It could be matched up with some blue or cool-toned lipsticks in your favorite cosmetic line.  The palette is priced at $45.00 and each pan has a good amount of product in it (I couldn’t find the ounces on the palette) which is pricey but for the quality I think it’s worth it.

I think it’s a really fun, unique, and unusual palette that has a wintery theme that can go along with some really great creative warm or cool toned makeup looks for the winter season.  I am looking forward to trying the newest “Golden Sands” palette!
