Makeup Focus Review: The BH Cosmetics “Smitten In Switzerland” Eyeshadow Palette

When I saw this new eyeshadow palette from BH Cosmetics at Ulta while looking for another product, I came across the “Smitten In Switzerland” Eyeshadow Palette which is part of the “Travel Series” Collection by BH that has several other palettes all representing different parts of the world.  I had originally bought this palette in April because it reminded me so much of dreaming of mountains and melting alpine snow that reveals the beautiful delicate shades of the first flowers of spring peeping out and breaking through from underneath the alpine winter snow that after such a cold frosty winter that say yes, spring is here!.  The flowers that are starting to bloom so fresh, clean, and new is what the colors of the “Smitten” Palette reminds me of.  Now that it is almost officially summer, it still reminds me of the beautiful display of alpine flowers throughout the season in the Swiss Alps with all its shades of white, cream, orange, forest greens, shimmering jeweled azure-blues, pinks, and peaches with 10 pigmented mattes and 6 beautiful shimmers in all.  This palette has so many versatile colors to make so many creative looks that one would be challenged to count just how many looks they could come up with from just this one palette and the price is only $16.00.

So there are 16 shades in all and starting from the top left there is “Snowcap” (a pale-ivory matte), “Montreux” (a light beige-nude matte), “Fondue” (a light peach-beige matte), “Slope” (a dark taupe-grey matte ), 2nd row:  “Lucerne” (a medium nude-mauve matte), “Yodel” (a medium maroon-red matte), “Zurich” (a medium-pink shimmer), “Geneva” (a beautiful and unique peach-gold shimmer), 3rd row:  “Alps” (a stone-gray shimmer), “Brisk” (a gorgeous azure-blue shimmer!), “Mount Rigi” (an olive-gold shimmering green), “Glacier Express” (a silver-grey shimmer), 4th row:  “Matterhorn” (a unique light poppy-orange and one of my favorite colors) that could be used over the lid for a sheer wash of color or used as a transition color or many other ways for a pop of color on the eye.  The next color is “Chocolate” (a milk chocolate-brown matte), “Mountain” (a medium green matte), and “Nightfall” (a midnight dark black matte).

All of these colors are gorgeous in and of themselves.  The color story of the palette is very complimentary with the shades all looking good combined with each other while also looking good on all skin tones with shades that flatter everyone.  The mattes are creamy and pigmented without being chalky and the shimmers are also smooth and pigmented without that chunky glitter feel.  For those that love shimmer shades there are a lot of them in this palette to work with.  My favorite shades in the palette are “Lucerne” which is a unique mauve-pink that is gorgeous and really brings out green eyes in combination with “Yodel” (a darker crease shade) and “Zurich” (as a shimmer shade on the lid), as well as “Mount Rigi”, “Mountain”, and Nightfall together with an eye look.  In my opinion, BH Cosmetics has really stepped up in the makeup game with so many quality products with the “Smitten” Palette being one of the most beautiful and versatile palettes that BH Cosmetics has ever come up with.
